 2016 Preview 


       James Clemens completed the 2015 season with a 10-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region four, the Jets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. James Clemens reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Spain Park by a score of 13-10.

       No team at James Clemens ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The 386 points scored by the Jets last year were a team record in a single season.

       The defense was very stingy last season as James Clemens ranked 3rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 8.7 points a game.

      

       James Clemens is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only four seasons. They have managed a record of 19-24 over the past four years.

       The Jets are led by head coach Wade Waldrop who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-14 over the past three seasons at James Clemens. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Waldrop.

       Coach Waldrop's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 60-48 (55.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Waldrop's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

       The James Clemens Jets will play in Class 7A region four during the 2016 season.

       The Jets enter the 2016 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. James Clemens has won 6 consecutive region games. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Madison City Schools Stadium.

       The Jets should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

      Running back Devon Atkinson returns for his junior season after rushing for 1,360 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.

       The Jets open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, August 26 at Driver Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 6A region six. The Rockets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Austin by a score of 53-38.

       James Clemens and Gardendale have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jets have a 2-2-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in with

       James Clemens returns 7A All-State Senior offensive lineman Brody Collier. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Jets also return Junior running back Devon Atkinson. He was named to the second team. The Jets also return Senior defensive back Kyriq McDonald. He was named to the first team. The Jets also return Senior defensive lineman Labryan Ray. He was named to the first team. The Jets also return Senior linebacker Michael Sharpley. He was named to the honorable mention team.  The Jets also return Senior linebacker Monty Rice. He was named to the second team.
